I am not really sure what the Liebster award is, but heck it sounds cool and I shall do it! According to Google, it’s given by bloggers to other bloggers, to well, as the award says, discover new blogs! I never quite saw myself as a blogger, it’s really just to document a big part of my life. But as people say, changes happen all the time, and now I’m documenting EVERYTHING in my life lol. It’s great finding like-minded people through blogging, and that serves as a great motivation to write. Many, many thanks to Sheilzy from Our Metricon Hudson for nominating me! Sheilzy’s journey to a dream home is enough to get me excited about building a house, I tell ya!

To get on with this, here’s the rules that came with the nomination:
1. Link back and recognise the blogger who nominated you.
2. Answer ten questions given by the nominator.
3. Nominate ten other bloggers for the award.
4. Create ten questions for nominees to answer.
5. Notify your nominees.
6. Get an award button and display it proudly.

Answering the questions:
1. Describe yourself in three words.
Food-lover and coffee-lover mostly (Yes, the biggest things about me is about what I love). Hmmm…. The last one. I’d say ~71%-sane. Yup, true story.

2. What does your family think of your blog?
I didn’t tell any of them about my blog! :X

3. What’s your favorite post that you’ve written and why? (Link, please!)
I wouldn’t say it’s because I love weeding, but the picture in the post reminds me of what I will be waking up to seeing every day in future 🙂

4. What do you enjoy most about blogging?
Meeting like-minded people and being inspired by each other’s project accomplishments. There’s no community group for that!

5. What are three things you cannot live without?
Physical, mental and spiritual sustenance – food, coffee and God!

6. Which song always gets you on the dance floor?
Here’s a little story: When I was about 7 years old, my friend came up to my mum and asked her why she didn’t get me to join the dance club in school. Mum was brutally honest, replied that I would look like an elephant dancing on stage.

-_-”’ So, I must say I can’t dance, but as of today, All About The Bass by Meghan Trainor gets my head bobbing! 🙂

7. What super power do you wish you have?
Teleportability. I do love driving, but at the rate I cram my life with things to do, I’m finding time spent on travelling my least favourite option. Plus, I’d like to be able to teleport myself back to Singapore to satisfy my “home food” crave whenever I want. And travelling would be pretty easy too wouldn’t it? 😉

8. What is your idea of heaven?
There is the Bible’s description of heaven, and there’s my imagined version of heaven. Either way, I’m hoping there’s a good cafe up there with hazelnut coffee.

9. If you could meet one person from the past, who would it be?
Audrey Hepburn. She’s got it all – naturally beautiful, talented, multi-lingual, has a big heart for people with all that humanitarian work.

10. Favourite holiday destination.
Can’t say I’ve been to a lot of places, but I do love the castles in Germany!

My nominations:
Isla House Number One
Libbynjeff The West House
Curt (mis)Adventures in Remodeling
Icecjan Our Building Journey

I don’t actually know many bloggers who haven’t been nominated, so I think 3 is as many as I could list!

My 10 questions to the nominated people:
1. List 3 things you love most about yourself
2. Who is your favourite person on Earth?
3. If you are given one chance to do or change anything, what would it be?
4. Which area in your house is your favourite?
5. What would be the worst nightmare to come true for you?
6. What is your dream job?
7. Name one movie you would watch all over again.
8. What is your favourite childhood memory?
9. Name 3 things that you definitely have to cross off on your bucket list.
10. What would you say to your younger self if you time-traveled?

Have fun!

What’s in a name?

Introducing the newest member in my life that would join me in my home-building adventures and live with me in my future home:

Newest member in the family 🙂

I spent the past few days agonizing about finding the perfect name for my first permanent pet (let’s just say my other first pets didn’t stay with me for that long). Oh, and over the home loan of course :p The pet just took priority for a while.

So, I kinda thought I will call it Minchkins. I have no idea why. Minch, for short. And I was warming up to that too. Just earlier today, I looked up Minchkins and Minch on Google. Here’s what the first link said:

Urban Dictionary: Minch
Minch is the medical definition for ‘stretched anal passage’

Without hesitation, I went on to google “names for brown rabbit”. You might say,

What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.

Now that I know what Minch means, I can’t un-think it any more, and you seriously cannot expect me to still be able to call her that!

Anyway, I have found the perfect name for this cute little bubby

Say hi to Hazel! 🙂

CONFESSION: Ok to be honest….. Apart from being quite busy and tired from work, I spent the week moping away and feeling very unmotivated. All those months of battling with designs and council approval, just to be stumped by a silly finance approval. I was told awhile ago that the numbers have to be re-jigged, blahblahblah, and in my head I was just thinking, it’s going to take forever, and it’s probably never going to happen. So unmotivated I was, that I didn’t want to go on Pinterest, I didn’t want to think about anything related to the house at all, I guess, for fear of bringing my hopes up for more rejection. I think some of you would know by now, that waiting isn’t a game I love playing. So I have stayed offline and buried myself in work, just so I don’t douse everyone’s excitement with their own life. At least not until I have something decently positive to say.

THE DECENTLY POSITIVE THING TO SAY: I got the finance approval on Tuesday! Lol sorry for being such an ass with all that mopey stuff above. But hey it’s a blog and let’s be realistic, if life hasn’t got its ups and downs then you must be in a fairytale (wait, even fairytales have got their downs!) It was nice hearing from Sheilzy about the Liebster award and Aylin about the 3D rendering program, and text messages from my bestie in Singapore who’s thinking about migrating to possibly Adelaide. SQUEALS!!! That all brought some life back into me 🙂

Anyways, about the finance approval, I was only excited for a couple of seconds, and then I totally forgot about it with all those happening haha. Also, I was in the midst of acquiring a pet rabbit, and that’s enough to excite me more than a finance approval!

That’s the picture I got off gumtree haha. Gonna pick it up tonight, I can’t wait! Gotta decide on a name quickly!

That special but un-named space in my house

Not everyone around me knows this, but I do have quite a big obsession for beverages. Coffee, tea, alcohol, taiwanese bubble tea, smoothies, etc. Here’s a bit of proof:

beverage cards
That’s not even including those memberships on the rewards app on my phone!

I wouldn’t call myself a coffee addict, but I must say I do enjoy my coffee to quite a great extent. So, just over a year ago, as all coffee lovers do (I can’t be the only one right??), I saw this one sale, and I HAD TO buy it:

Now, it would be preposterous if my new home didn’t have a special spot for possibly the most important appliance in the house, so thank God that by accident (you don’t believe me do you? It wasn’t deliberate!), there is a special but un-named space in my house just for my beverages.

Here’s the most updated floor plan, where the split between levels is increased, and I have left the names of the rooms on the map.

That special spot is nestled between the stairs and the pantry, right in the middle of the house where the brewed coffee can waft into every corner of the house and do its wonders. 😀

It is going to sound a bit too over the top, but this is by far the closest to what I had imagined for that special corner:

Not sure having a blackboard wall is all that practical for a home, but I do know that I am definitely having a coffee corner!

Becoming an obsessed home-building enthusiast

As most of you already know, my primary job is scientific research, and home-building is kinda like a hobby or a personal project for me.

Just earlier at work today, a fresh kidney specimen came in, with an abnormal appearance of what looked like marbles or multi-coloured pebbles embedded in it. While feeling grossed out yet in awe at the same time, I said out loud,

“My goodness!!! This looks like an exposed aggregate concrete driveway!”

Then came a mental gasp. The technician looked at me, probably expecting words like “cysts/polycystic” and “fluid-filled” rather than “exposed aggregate” and “driveway”. So much for being in this profession for 3 years.

FOR THOSE NOT WILLING TO LOSE THEIR APPETITE, here’s a link with a cartoon that demonstrates what I saw:

FOR THOSE BRAVE ENOUGH, here’s a few examples of what I saw:

Afterthought: I think I have levelled-up as a home-building enthusiast.
